An overview of 2023: Czechs still discontent over the development of their society
A majority (62%) of the Czech public considers 2023 a successful year from a personal point of view. From a societal point of view, the retrospective view of the past year is less favourable – more than four-fifths of the Czech population do not consider 2023 to be successful either in terms of the development of society as a whole or in terms of ensuring greater social justice. People with higher education or higher incomes are significantly more likely to consider 2023 a successful year from a personal point of view. However, the influence of these factors weakens when people assess society-wide development, and no socio-economic group is overwhelmingly satisfied with the development of Czech society in 2023. STEM analyst Kateřina Duspivová adds: “The year 2023 will be marked by fear, uncertainty and fatigue for most of the Czech public. These feelings also spill over into the new year – 57% of the population is worried about 2024, while 43% are looking forward to it.”
